Capacity Building - Vermi Composting

A large scale unit of 650 cft area was established to demonstrate production of vermicompost using farm waste and cowdung. Yearly on an average 15-20 tonnes of compost will be produced and utilized for KVK farm. Around 150 kg of earthworms are sold to farmers for encouraging organic farming through vermicompost production.

Capacity Building - Bee Keeping

The KVK, Hassan has established 10 demo units in the year 2014-15, due to which the productivity of agriculture and horticulture crops has increased through pollination over the years. Also, demonstrations on bee keeping will be conducted to the KVK visitors.

Physical Facilities - Poultry Farm

The KVK, Hassan has established poultry farm which comprises of 30 Giriraja birds, 10 guinea fouls, 10 Kadaknath birds, 10 Turkey birds and 20 Ducks. The same is demonstrated to the visitors of KVK.

The KVK, Hassan has established farmer guest house which comprises of 4 rooms for farmers accommodation with 40 beds and 3 wash rooms with solar and geyser for hot water, kitchen is accomplished with water filter, 1 dining hall, Tv hall and1 training hall with fully furnished facilities.

The KVK, Hassan has established guest house which comprises of 2 rooms for farmers accommodation with 26 beds and 6 wash rooms with solar and geyser for hot water, 1 training hall with fully furnished .

Physical Facilities - Dairy Farm

The KVK, Hassan has established Dairy unit which comprises of 10 cows(Hallikar, Malnaad gidda, HF and Jersey), 4 heifers and 5 calves. There is a well designed cattle shed(1 Shed for Cows, 1 shed for heifers and calves) with cement concrete floor. Each cow has its own place in the resting area, called cubicle. Each cubicle has floor mat which prevents the cow from slipping. Chaff cutter and milking machine is also used at the KVK Farm.

Physical Facilities - Animal Farm

The KVK, Hassan has established Sheep unit which comprises of 40 sheep (Hassan local and Bandur). There is a well designed sheep shed with separate area for stall feeding of sheeps which is made of low cost bamboo materials.

The KVK, Hassan has established Goat rearing unit which comprises of 25 goats. There is a well designed goat shed with separate area for stall feeding of goat.

Capacity Building - Silk Worm

The KVK, Hassan has established silk worm rearing unit with a capacity of 100 DFL's. Rearing appliances: Power sprayer for disinfecting, rearing stands are made of locally available wooden logs with wired rearing trays, plastic mountages and a temperature regulator. It has sufficient windows and ventilators for free circulation of air inside the rearing house.

Physical Facilities - Soil Testing Lab

The KVK, Hassan has established soil and water testing laboratory. The laboratory is equipped with PH meter, EC meter, KJhedhal instrument for estimating Nitrogen, UV-Spectrophotometer, Flame photometer, Double distillation water unit, Shaker, Hot plate, Atomic absorption spectrophotometer, fridge, weighing balance.

KVK, Hassan has constructed a farm pond (15X15X3m) with 2.5 lakh litre storage capacity of water for irrigation and composite fish rearing. The same is demonstrated to the visitors of KVK.

Coconut Dehusker

To reduce the scarcity of labour and cost of de-husking of coconut, KVK, Hassan has introduced the automatic coconut de-husking machine for the benefit of farmers with a capacity of 800 to 1000 nuts per hour.

To create awareness on importance of nipping in bengal gram KVK, Hassan demonstrated the solar operated nipping machine for higher productivity.

Krishi sanjeevini (Agricultural technological inputs sales center)

To make available research based technological inputs to the farmers that are not available in the market, Krishi sanjeevini (Agricultural technological inputs sales center) has been established at KVK, Hassan. Meteorological Observatory has been established at KVK Farm Hassan to record the weather parameters such as rainfall, temperature, wind speed, humidity and wind direction.

Azolla prodution unit

The KVK, Hassan has established Azolla unit for demonstration of azolla production to farmers. The unit consists of 8 circular concrete tanks with shallow depth for scientific and continuous production of Azolla.

Horticulture Nursery

KVK, Hassan has established Horticulture nursery comprising: Papaya (Variety: Red lady) Drumstick (Variety: PKM-1) Arecanut (Variety: Theerthahalli local) Coconut (Thiptur Tall) Cardomom (Variety: SKP-14 & Nellani green gold) Apical rooted potato cuttings and Medicinal and Aromatic seedlings ( Insulin, Edible-stemmed vine, Guduchi, Aloevera, Coleus, Periwinkle, Indian snake root, lemon grass, Vetiver)

Piggery Unit

The KVK, Hassan has established piggery unit with a capacity of 20 pigs. Duroc and Large yolkshire breeds of pigs are raised and the same is demonstrated to the visitors of KVK. The piglets produced are sold to the farmers for reasonable price.

Rabbit unit

The KVK, Hassan has established rabbit unit comprising of 35 rabbits. There are three breeds of rabbit at KVK viz., New zealand white, russian grey giant and Chinchilla. Rabbit farming is gaining relevance in modern days due to its fast growth, high reproductive potential and relatively low space and resource requirements making it more profitable enterprise thus the same is demonstrated to the visitors of KVK.

Duckery Unit

The KVK, Hassan has established Duck rearing unit which comprises of 12 ducks with 2 varieties (kakhi campbell and white peckin). An intensive system of duck raising is followed with access to water source.
