Chief Guest's Remarks:In Haryana, as well as other states of north western India, rice-wheat cropping system is adopted by the farmers. This is the most exhaustive cropping system. This system degrades and exploits the natural resources upto the maximum extent. The fertility and productivity of the soil is continuously decreasing, pest incidence is increasing and this system also creates environmental hazards and pollution. Hence there is urgent need to monitor soil status at regular intervals so that the natural resources can be saved, sustainability in productivity may be maintained and food security of the country may remain intact. The central and state governments are laying emphasis for getting the soil samples tested and issue Soil Health Cards to the farmers for the precise farming in right prospective.
