Objective: Krishi Vigan Kendra, Bathinda organized 7 days Vocational Training course on value addition to fruits and vegetables w.e.f from 3 June 2018 to 11 june 2018 for farm women. The programme started with the welcome address by Dr. J. S. Brar, Assoc. Director (Training). He oriented the participants about the need and importance of preserving of fruits & Vegetables.
Pre Event Description :
Course coordinator Mrs. Jaswinder Kaur Brar, Associate Professor (Home Science) provided information on value addition to seasonal fruits & vegetables through preservation, principles & different methods of preservation, and causes of spoilage of preserved food and their prevention measures. Demonstrations on preparation of mango squash & jam, chilly, Lemon & mango pickle, mango, pumpkin & papaya chutney , tomato sauce & puree, gingerale, Panna, and rose sharbat were given to participants . For the perfection in acquiring the skill , trainees prepare small samples of theses preserved items at their home also. During the exposure visit, trainees conducted market survey to compare the cost of preparing preserved food items at home with their market price, to see the profit in this enterprise. Dr. Amardeep Kour, Asstt. Prof. (Horticulture) delivered lecture on role of fruits and vegetables in daily diet for better nutrition.
