Description : Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nalbari, in collaboration with the Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Department, Nalbari, organized an animal health camp in the flood-affected Kheluwa village under Paschim Nalbari revenue circle on 20th July, 2024. During the camp veterinary treatments have been provided for 450 livestock and poultry suffering from various diseases such as lumpy skin disease, diarrhea, contagious ecthyma and parasitic infestations covering 70 households of the locations. The initiative aimed to alleviate the suffering of animals in the flood-affected regions and promote their overall health and well-being. General health check up, mineral supplements, liver supportive, deworming tablets, etc distributed to the owner of livestock and poultry. The program was attended by Dr. Nilotpal Das, SMS (Animal Science) KVK, Nalbari, Dhyan Jyoti Borah, Dr. Rimjhim Das, Veterinary Officer, State Veterinary Dispensary, Solmara and other staff of the dispensary.

Mr Hemanta Nath, a progressive mushroom farmer and social entrepreneur of Nalbari gave a demonstration on mushroom production technology and urged them to cultivate mushroom commercially. The programme was inaugurated by Head of the KVK Dr. Mridul Deka. Speaking to the gathering Dr. Deka urged the bee keepers to take up bee keeping on commercial basis to uplift their economic condition and to increase in production of different crops. He told that bee takes a crucial role in pollination of cross pollinated crops. Sonmoina Bhuyan SMS of the KVK also delivered a lecture on importance of bee keeping in farming system. It is worth to mention that the honey bee day was first observed by the bee keepers of United State of America in the year 2009 and from the next year, 2010 the whole world is celebrating the every 3rd Saturday of August as World Honey Bee Day. The programme was attended by more than 100 bee keepers and interested farmers of the district.

He stressed on farmers’ pension and farmers’ family coverage under insurance schemes in case of ailments. He advocated the farmers to grow crops in Nalbari aiming the Guwahati market and also insisted on to get the KCCs.
