Minister along with Mrs. Nyabi Jini Dirchi MLA Leparada and other officials visited to various demonstration units including millet trials under Natural Farming, Poultry Unit, Horticulture block. From KVK the team was lead by Dr. Manoj Kumar Senior Scientist-cum-Head. While interacting with the Head ICAR AP Centre Basar and KVK scientists and other officials, Shri Dubey emphasized on the Natural Farming potential for further agricultural growth in the state. The Minister reiterated that the traditional methods of agriculture of the region should be preserved and combined with scientific methods of farming for profitability. Prof. L. Wangchu, Head, ICAR AP Centre Basar, highlighted to the minister about the research and extension activity conducted by KVK at Instructional Farm and also spoke about the KVK’ commendable work on Millets.

The training was inaugurated by Dr. L. Wangchu, Head, Regional Centre, ICAR RC for NEH Region Arunachal Pradesh Centre, Basar. During the inauguration speech, Dr. L. Wangchu highlighted the importance of livestock base IFS in West Siang District. Dr. Manoj Kumar, Head, ICAR-KVK West Siang advised to the farmers the importance of Integrated farming system to increase the production and productivity of the farm. During the training session Dr. Doni Jini, Senior Scientist Veterinary Extn. Edu briefly explained management of feed, disease and timely vaccination of pig and poultry. Dr. Kangabam Suraj, ACTO-Plant Protection also explained mushroom cultivation its important role for fast income generation and conversion of its SMS (Spent Mushroom Substrate) into the vermicompost production as a component of IFS.

ICAR-KVK West Siang Completes Demonstration of IPM Model Covering 350 Acres of Area in West Siang District

Description : A pilot project was initiated by ICAR-KVK West Siang to manage the insects, pets and disease attacks in cucurbit crops targeting 350 acres of area across the farming systems of district West Siang. To complete this task a base line survey across the West Siang district where cucurbits crop viz. cucumber, bottle gourd, sponge gourd, bitter gourd, ridge gourd, pumpkin, Chayote and sweet gourd were grown and frequently incidence of infection were reported. It has been planned and aims to reduce the infestation and population of fruit fly and establish an environmentally safe control measure in cucurbit crops by using low cost pheromone bait traps in all kind of cucurbit crops. Under this project IPM model was demonstrated though low cost bottle fruit fly traps in phase wise. One third of targeted and was covered upto March, 2018.
