Mean while Animal Science Scientist Dr. Santosh Kumar, explained pond and fingerlings management and advised to give homemade fish feed prepared by crushed maize, rice bran, rice polish, GNC, mineral mixture and salt to support the initial growth and development of fingerlings. Dhawan stressed the need for diversifying the use of sweet potato and urged the farmers to grow anti-oxidant rich sweet potato varieties like Bhu Sona (rich in β-carotene) and Bhu Krishna (rich in anthocyanin). He urged the ICAR- CTCRI to scale up production of anti-oxidant rich varieties along with other tuber crops varieties to help farmers to maximise their income in Lohit district. Dr. P. Description : On farm visits to farmers, after physical examination of pig, it was found that Hog louse was present all over the animal body along with scattered patches of inflamed skin. From the above finding, it was diagnosed that pig was infested with Hog louse (Haematopinus suis) and Hog Mange Mite (Sarcoptes scabiei suis). Hog louse infestation was evident from presence of louse all over the body and scattered patches of inflamed skin along with alopecia indicate the infestation Hog Mange Mite. Treatments: the common method of ectoparasite control in rural area is ivermectin injection. Subcutaneous, Ivermection injection as per body weight of animal and repeat the dose after 3 weeks, is the most effective drugs of choice for rural area, because it is easily available and does not have much side effect unlike other ectoparasite drugs such as Deltametrin and Amitraz, which has a poisonous property.

Presently, Tafraliang village is also an adopted village under the “Doubling Farmers Income by 2022 Programme”.

Description : A Meet with Expert Programme sponsored by NABARD, Itanagar was conducted led by Shri. S. Peter Singh, SMS, Social Sciences. The meeting was also coordinated by Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK Anjaw and Ms. Rebecca Eko, SMS, Horticulture. Altogether, 28 rural youths including President, Secretary and President of the club. During the meeting various issues and strategies were discuss to create awareness among the members regarding different schemes launched under the state for promotion of farmers and farm women such as such as Chief Minister Krishi Riin Yojana which was recently launched by Chief Minister, Arunachal Pradesh for the welfare of the Farming community. Further, different income generating activities which can be taken up under the club were also discuss among the members. Lastly, seeds of ricebeans and maize were also distributed to the participants of the meeting.

Description : KVK Anjaw has successfully organized awareness programme on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers Right Act, 2001” on 16th March, 2017 at Community Hall, Hayuliang. The event was attended by 122 farmers and rural youths from different corners of the district. The programme was chaired by DC Anjaw, Deputy Director, Spices Board, Namsai including PRI members. Dr. Manish Kanwat, Sr. Scientist and Head, KVK Anjaw emphasized the farmers regarding the importance of PPV&FR Act. Shri. Naveen Kh, SMS, Agronomy gave presentation on the importance of PPV& FR Act, 2001. Smt. Vijhessna. V, Asst. Dir., Spices Board, Namsai also spoke in relation with the occasion. Exhibition of different local germplasm and ethnic products were showcased and prizes were also distributed for Best Exhibition. Smt. Mamta Riba, Hon’ble D C, Anjaw also spoke on ill effect of inbreeding depression of pigs. Lastly, Kiwi and Khasi mandarin saplings were also distributed under BADP project.

Description : KVK Anjaw celebrated Kisan Mela on 09th March, 2017. The programme was started with welcome address by Manish Kanwat, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Anjaw. Shri. Kego Jelang, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Hayuliang, graced the occasion as the Chairman. During his valuable speech, he requested the farmers to conserve indigenous local germplasm for future generation. Shri. Bauim Kri, Local BJP Leader also requested to conserve different valuable local germplasm like Jungle Katchu (Paris Polyphera), Mishmi Dal, varieties of millets (Kodo), Caterpillar mushroom (Cordicep Sinensis) etc. In continuation of the programme, different SMS of concern subject gave their presentation on cultivation practices of L. Cardamom and their schemes. Further, various indigenous local germplasm, fish bamboo basket, cane bags, tools and implements were also showcased to the dignitaries. The village is located at an elevation of 1700 above msl and known for acute scarcity of water in the entire Anjaw District. Er. H. Dayananda Singh, Scientist, Farm Machinery, Shri. S.N. Talukdar Technical Officer, ICAR, Umiam and Shri. S. Peter Singh, SMS, KVK, Anjaw stress that as per the distribution of undulating land structure , development of water pumping system is not feasible for providing solution to combat scarcity of water in the village. Therefore, low cost rain water harvesting structure, Jalkund (Plastic pond) will be the best option for mitigating the acute shortage of water that persist in the village. Presently, the village is adopted under the Tribal Sub Plan funded project “Development of Rainwater Harvesting Structure for Year Round Production at Anjaw District” and “Mera Gaun Mera Gaurav”

Description : Mitigating the problem of postharvest losses, KVK Anjaw aimed to create awareness among the farmers by organizing a two days training programme with method demonstration at Chipru village (20th and 21st January 2017) and one day at Tafraliang village (23rd January 2017) on “Postharvest management and value addition of Khasi Mandarin”. At Chipru village, altogether 87 nos. of farmers (both young and old) attended the training programme. While, at Tafraliang, a total of 34 nos. of farmer women, mostly from “SYADU” selfhelp group (SHG) attended the training programme. Ms Rebecca Eko, SMS (Horticulture) coordinator of the training programme delivered her lecture in details on different aspects of post-harvest management and value addition techniques. Programme was followed by method demonstration of Orange Squash preparation, the participants shown keen interest and appreciated the KVK official’s effort.

Description : One-day Mobile Animal health camp was organize on 19th Jan 2017, at Metengliang village on different locations, on the request of piggery farmers, that there is a rampant outbreak of disease in pig. Covering five different locations during health camp, altogether 53 piglets were given iron injection and as many as 19 sow were given multivitamin supplementation along with deworming tablets. Most of animal were suffering from vitamin and mineral deficiency and due to cold wave respiration problem was noticed in many pigs. According to the sign and symptom of disease, especially with broncho-dilator, Antibiotics and antipyretic drugs were used to relieve the pain and suffering.

To encourage the farmers towards improve poultry farming practices, he distributed 250 numbers vanaraja breeds pullets of 4 months old, along with feeder, drinkers, vitamin & minerals supplements and concentrate feeds under ongoing TSP on poultry. He advice the farmers to mix the concentrate feeds with locally available feeds at graded dose of 5% per day at increasing level to prevent the gastric upset from sudden change of feeding habits. Doing so by 20 days vanaraja pullets feeding can be completely replace by locally available feeds to minimize cost of rearing and easy management within available locally feeds resource. altogether 37 farmers attended the training and benefited.

Description : Dr. Tilling Tayo, SMS-Animal Science, KVK Anjaw, exhaustively presented the importance of vaccination in livestock production through power point presentation. He exhorted that livestock are indivisible part of tribal people of Arunachal Pradesh. Rural farmers have heredity knowledge regarding management of livestock evolve through process of trial and error method since ancestor. However, they lack in heath care aspect of livestock, though they use tradition medicine to treat simple disease like fever and diarrhea but for viral origin disease like Swine fever, FMD, Marek, IBD, Ranikhet and Fowl pox, they do not have any remedy, which can be prevented by vaccination only. Therefore, vaccination schedule must follow by livestock owner, as a preventive measure to prevent outbreak of viral disease, without much change in traditional method of rural livestock production. Altogether 41 numbers of trainees, including rural youths, school dropouts, farmers and farmwomen attended the program.

He discussed regarding prevention and control measure of all the common disease outbreak in swine population such as, Iron deficiency disease, parasitic infestation, mineral and vitamin deficiency, swine fever and FMD. . Further, he asked the farmers to go for early treatment instead of waiting for weeks to look for self cure system, doing this many pig succumb to disease and delay in treatment result poor response to drugs. As a result, there is more involvement of money and time in treatment of disease. Therefore, precaution is always cheaper and better than cure. At the end of training, Anthelmentic drugs (Bandykind plus) were distributed to participant to deworm their pigs. Altogether 40 numbers of participant including farmers, farmwomen and rural youths have attended the said program.

Peter Singh, SMS, Social Sciences stated that the Nilang SHGs was formed in the year 2011 but till yet no such activities have been taken up for generation of income due to lack of capacity building, knowledge and exposure. The key objectives for organizing the training programme was to make more aware regarding the income generation activities through bridging theses gaps and taking up of short duration activities like vegetable cultivation, food processing, poultry farming among the groups. On the other side, information were also imparted for mobilization of savings among the groups for creation of revenue for the groups.

Description : Vegetables are usually propagated either by seed or vegetative means. Hence to procure uniform, vigorous and healthy seedlings, establishment of a nursery is a must. Keeping this in mind, a one day training programme on “Establishment of Nursery and Nursery Management on Cole Crops” was conducted by KVK, Anjaw on 12th November 2016 at Govt. Sec. Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya, Supliang village in Anjaw district. Altogether, 53 (rural youths) attended the training programme. Ms Rebecca Eko, Subject Matter Specialist (Horticulture), coordinator of the training programme gave a detailed power point presentation on the importance of nursery and its management, site selection, soil treatments, seed treatment, type of nursery bed preparations, different sowing methods and essential operations in nursery raising and its aftercare.

Description : K.V.K Anjaw in collaboration with NBPGR conducted 6 days exploration cum collection of local landraces from Anjaw District of Arunachal Pradesh from 18th to 24thOctober, 2016. The team comprises of Dr. K. Pradheep (Senior Scientist, NBPGR New Delhi) Dr. G.D. Harish (Scientist, NBPGR, Umiam) and Khoisnam Naveen (SMS Agronomy, KVK Anjaw). During the exploration, the team collected altogether 170 samples comprising of different local landraces of rice, maize, beans, millets, ginger as well as other important crops from 8 circle of Anjaw district. The main aim of the exploration cum collection of local indigenous germplasm was to identify differentlocal landraces of crops available in the district as well as for preservation in the gene bank of NBPGR as day by day local landraces are being decreasing due to less cultivation and increase preference of improved variety.

On the other hand eye worm infestation is second most economic importance ofdisease in mithun because often mithun fall from Clift during the course of grazing during eye infection time.

Description : A six days interstate exposure visit was organized by KVK Anjaw under the sponsorship of PD-ATMA, Anjaw, at ICAR RC for NEH Region, Umiam during 17th to 22nd October, 2016. A total of 20 farmers from different villages of Anjaw district of Arunachal Pradesh were participated in the exposure visit. The visit was lead by Shri S. Peter Singh, SMS (Social Sciences) & Shri Prasanta Mahanta, Farm Manager. During the programme , the farmers were visited to ICAR Poultry farm, Piggery farm, Goattery farm, Rabbit farm, Agronomy farm and Horticulture farm and mushroom spawn production unit for getting exposure on different scientific farming technologies that can be adopted by them to increase their farm productivity and income for livelihood improvement. A visit to Rural Resource & Training Centre (RRTCNGO), Umran was also made to showcase the activities undertaken by them for entrepreneurship development for farmers, farm women and rural youth.

Description : To popularize the concept of nursery of winter/Rabi crop cultivation in Anjaw district, ICAR KVK farm, Metengliang conducted an on farm method demonstration title‘nursery management under protected cultivation’ on 25th September 2016. The farmers were imparted field demonstration on nursery preparation, its types, pre-sowing treatments and its management.Based on the saying that‘Seeing is believing’, the nursery preparation techniques were also practically demonstrated.They were encouraged to adopt vegetable farming to meet their domestic requirement as well as to earn extra income by selling their surplus produce round the year.At the end of the programme, seedlings of cole crops (100 nos each of Cabbage, Broccoli and Chinese cabbage) and King chilli seedlings in polybags (5 nos. each) were distributed to 17 beneficiaries in order to encourage the farmers.

Description : A farmer from Amliang village Mr. Bakhlom Ama came to KVK office to seek technical intervention from SMS Animal science for treatment of mithun suffering from infected wound at right side of neck. On collecting the history of animal prior to approach for treatment, he narrated that earlier there were maggot in wound but with the use of camphor/Napthalin ball (Organo-phosphorus compound), which is readily available in market to keep in storage place of cloths to protect from pest attack are applied at the wound to kill the maggot. However, doing these the entire maggot had killed and in addition, he had also, lost five (5) numbers of chicken (pullets) after eating died maggot from mithun wound, the chicken died. On physical examination of mithun it was found that female mithun around (15-16 years) old, physically weak and infected wound oozing pus from the hole was notice on right side of neck at the point of shoulder joint.

He acquainted the participants about various aspect of mushroom cultivation and was given training for the cultivation of oyster mushroom and urges the participants to start cultivating mushroom on a commercial scale. Specially farm women appreciated the training programme and showed a keen interest in the cultivation of mushroom and decided to take up mushroom cultivation during the coming season. Description : Training cum distribution of Vanaraja birds for livelihood improvement of tribal farmers of Metengliang area under Tribal Sub Plan in Animal Science was held on 10th March 2016 by KVK, Anjaw. A total of 205vanaraja chicks of 15 days old, after one dose of vaccination against Marak, Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD), and Ranikhet disease were distributed to 41 tribal farmers of Metengliang area. Prior to distribution of vanaraja chicks demonstration on dose and method of medicine and vitamins supplements, how to dilute in water were thoroughly thought. Along with chicks one sets of feeder and drinker were distributed to each beneficiaries and imparted technical know how to use the feeder and drinker equipment’s for judicious use of feeds and water requirements during intensive rearing period. 15 kg of concentrate starter ration werealso distributed for every 5 numbers of chicks @ 3kg/chick for initial period of one month.

Injection Lofac-MP (Melonex&Paracetomal): 10 ml I/M was given to relief pain and other discomforts 5. Adlib cold water was provided to drink.

Description : A farm women from Khroilang village, Mrs kilong Mai Chiaty came with a chief complain of her bull weighing about 300 kg was injured near hock joint by sharp object while grazing in jungle. The wound was not healing due to house fly and maggot infestation, further wasp aggravate the wound by biting the piece of meat in every visit. Khroliang village is 10 km from KVK, camp office Hayuliang and from main road to Khroliang village by foot march, it takes around 15 minutes to reach the village by crossing, Lohit River a tributaries of mighty river Brahmaputra, through hanging Bridge.
