Description : KVK Dibrugarh organized a day long programme on Food and Nutrition for the farm women of the district. The Programme was started with awareness programme on Food and Nutrition. Dr. D. Sharma, Sr. Scientist and Head, emphasized on taking locally available fruits and their preservation for all year availability. Other Scientists of the KVKs also made aware to the participants about the different vitamins and minerals available in the locally available fruits, vegetables crops and their benefit for our wellness. A practical training programme on preparation of pineapple squash was also given to the participants. After the training webcasting programme of Address by Hon’ble Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare on the National level campaign on “Food and Nutrition for Farmers” was shown. Altogether 36 numbers of participants participated in the programme.

Description : In the programme the farmers were given an awareness to stop soil erosion by using appropriate method of crop cultivation and maintain the soil fertility for further crop cultivation and save the soil health for future. The DAO, Dibrugarh Mr S. Goswami encouraged the farmers to go for line showing method during cultivation so that later on it becomes easy in broadcasting of need based fertilizers or treatment of crops etc. He also asked the farmers to use organic fertilizers and much as possible. Mrs. T. Kalita, Divisional Soil Conservation Officer, Dibrugarh suggested to adopt appropriate fertilizer application method as per the soil health cards provided to them so that the stability of fertility of the soil can remain and soil will be healthy for further cultivation. About 120 nos. of leaflet on soil health management were distributed among the participants and 108 no s of Soil Health Cards were distributed to the farmers. All together 114 nos of participants were present.

The programme was organized at three places of the district namely KVK campus, Moderkhat Model School and an adopted village – Jhajimukh, under Barbaruah block of Dibrugarh. In all the three places programme was started with Felicitation of guests followed by welcome address from KVK. In the welcome speech objective of the campaign with respect to importance of trees in protection of environment and also role of Swacchta in our day to day life was described. The training was organized by an NGO-Pathar Parisalana Samittee of Dibrugarh. Initially the participants were made aware of different activities of KVK followed by scientific rearing of poultry. The farm women were given training on type of poultry for increase egg and meat production, rearing, feeding and managemental practice and control of different diseases. The participants were enthusiastically involved and raised their doubts and queries in the post evaluation session. Total 35 farm women participated in the training.

After the inaugural session, a massive sapling plantation drive was undertaken where all the participants actively participated and about 20 saplings of Gulmohar and Som plants were planted around the KVK campus. As a part of the programme, an extempore speech competition was conducted amongst the students covering topics related to ecology, environment protection and modern agricultural practices with an objective to attract future generation towards eco-friendly agricultural system. On 3rd November a programme was organized at Mazpar (Borotichuk) village of the Lahowal Block, where 25 farmers participated. The programme started with a pledge by all the participants. Thereafter, a detail discussion was held in Building new India by taking role in eradicating Corruption from the society. They were mainly informed about how to take the advantage of the recently lauched crop insurance scheme that is Pradhan Mantir Fasal Bima Yojona and what are the salient features of this scheme. Farmers were also detailed about how to enhance their farm income for their overall economic development. Bora expressed about the role of guardians in maintaining a healthy social environment for the betterment of the society. Also, many other dignitaries expressed their views in the event. About 230 students participated actively in the programme.

Description : Cluster Front Line Demonstration (CFLD) on Rabi oilseed under NMOOP was conducted in 50 ha area by KVK Dibrugarh at 3 different places comprising of 68 beneficiaries. The demonstration was conducted with the aim of area expansion under oilseed sector and also to cover more area that usually lies fellow after harvesting of winter rice. In more than 50% area, demonstration was conducted in rice-toria sequence. The variety demonstrated was TS 36 (Rapeseed, toria). Date of sowing was 13th to 15th November, 2017. Technology used was seed rate 10kg/ ha, seed treatment with biofertilizers - Azotobacter and PSB @ 50 gm/kg of each and Vermicompost @ 100 kg/ ha. Additionally Borax was used @ 10 kg/ ha as per soil testing report. Date of harvesting was 8th and 9th February, 2018. Duration of crop was 85 days. A field day was also organized on 8th February, 2018 at 1 No Konwar gaon. The expected yield after proper drying is 9-10q/ ha.

Description : A day long sponsored training on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and Integrated Nutrient Management (INM) was organized at KVK training hall of KVK on 29th January, 2018. The training was conducted with the financial support of Rastriya Grramin Vikash Nidhi (RGVN), Duliajan, Dibrugarh. A total of 36 farmers attended the training. All the trainees were given knowledge on pest and nutrient management ideas in commonly cultivated vegetables of the district. Moreover they were given live demonstrations on preparation of vermicompost, Azolla cultivation, preparation of super compost, enriched compost, use of biopestides in turmeric, pineaaple, banana etc. The farmers actively participated in the training programme and they urged to have such programmes in near future too.

The FLD was conducted with the aim of withstanding water submergence generally occurs due to flood remaining for 7-10 days. The varieties used were Jalshree, Ranjit-sub-1 and Bahadur-sub-1 developed by Assam Agricultural University. Available N (kg/ha), Available P (kg/ha) and Available K (kg/ha) status of soil were 315, 17.5 and 95, respectively. Date of sowing, Date of transplanting and Date of harvesting of rice were 15th to 19th June, 2017, 15th to 19th July, 2017 and 15th to 24th November, 2017 respectively with the duration being 155 days for Jalashree and 150 days for other two varieties. The average yield were 47.5, 49.5 and 40 q/ ha for jalashree, Ranjit-sub-1 and Bahadur-sub-1 respectively in spite of submergence for two times on 10th to 13th July, 2017 and 10th to 14th August, 2017.

Description : Moreover, it is of utmost concern to the scientific community today that honey-bee, which is responsible for food security of entire mankind through its pollination service to about 90 crops, is now at stake due to some anthropogenic activity such as its habitat destruction, high pesticide use, introduction of exotic invasive pest threatening our native bee species, climate change etc. With a view to sensitize the farmers on these issues, World Honey-Bee Day was celebrated today (19th August) at KVK, Dibrugarh. In a day long programme farmers, farm-women and rural youths were made acquainted with the uniqueness and importance of this tiny creature in agro-ecosystem, apicultural techniques of rearing and management of Indian honey bee. Video on traditional and advance techniques of honey extraction was also shown. Dibrugarh district can easily gain self-sufficiency in mustard-oil production through extensive cultivation of improved variety with incorporation of honey-bee in the crop.

In the third day Chayanika Thakuria an expert in Agronomy explained about the improved production technology of rice and rapeseed in double cropping sequence mode. In the fourth day training were held on management of important pest and diseases of rice and rapeseed for enhancing their farm income. In the last day participant were taught about improved method of Malbhug banana and Assam Lemon cultivation.

Description : A village viz. Baratichuk (Mazpar) of Rohmaria block, Dibrugarh has been selected for interventions to be made by KVK Dibrugarh under Farmer’s Doubling Income Project. Detailed benchmark survey covering every household of the village is going on. As per initial survey, the present average annual income of the villagers is Rs. 68,612.00 covering both farm (Rs. 36362.00) and non-farm income (Rs. 32250.00). After SWOT analysis, the roadmap and various interventions to be undertaken have been formulated. From KVK side, the efforts will be made on multiple cropping systems, crop intensification, use of fallow land, varietal replacement, integrated crop management etc. Moreover, with the help of district administration, convergence with different line departments will be made for development of the village through a holistic approach.

The programme was started with welcome address by Mrs. Anjumoni Konwar, President, NASS, who briefly made aware the importance of World Environment Day. She requested the Scientists of KVK to elaborate the importance of World Environment Day and different strategies taken to save Environment and Agriculture to the Students. Mr. Kuladhar Khanikar, President, KASS, Dibrugarh Committee presided the meeting. After the inaugural session, a massive plantation drive was undertaken where all the students, teachers, members of the KASS-NASS, ASTHA actively participated and about 50 saplings of Guava, Litchi, Ber, Mango, Aonla, Neem etc. were planted in and around the school campus.

Description : Farmers’ varieties have been utilized in developing improved varieties of various crops both in private and public seed producing sectors. However, very little is known to most of the farmers about registration of their own variety and the benefit out of it. In this context, a daylong awareness programme and training on “Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmer’s Right Act, 2001” was organized on 6th March, 2017 at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Dibrugarh for the farmers of the district. The programme was held with the financial support from PPV & FR, Govt. of India. Altogether, 101 farmers and farm-women from 15 villages of six blocks of Dibrugarh district participated in the event. In the training session Dr. Rupam Borgohain, Professor and Head, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Jorhat elaborated on different aspects of Farmer’s right in PPV and FR, 2001 and reciprocated the queries from participating farmers.

Description : A “Technology Week” was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Dibrugarh from 23rd - 30th December, 2016 at various locations of the Dibrugarh district with an objective to disseminate the recent agricultural technologies for the benefit of the farming community. The main theme of the “Technology Week” was “Jai Kisan Jai Vigyan”; it means development in agriculture is only possible if science/technology percolates into the farmer’s field in true sense. In this context, variety of events such as Farmers-Scientist Interactions, Field Trials/ Front-Line-Demonstrations, Farmer’s Fare, Exhibition, Lectures by experts were organised. More than 1000 farmers of the district were exposed to various agro-technologies and brought under KVK’s knowledge hub. A total of 116 SHC were distributed to the participants.
