Description : National Farmers' Day is celebrated all over India on 23rd December every year on the birth anniversary of Hon'ble Mr. Chaudhary Charan Singh, farmer leader and former Prime Minister. On this day, various activities are carried out in the country with the aim of honoring farmers, who provides food to the world by tilling the fields day and night. On the occasion of National Farmer's Day, Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon, Thane organized Awareness Programme on Natural Farming and Field Visits. Mr. Vishal Yadav, SMS (Horticulture) introduced natural farming to the present farmers and guided them on the process of making Jivamrut, Bijamrut, Nimastra, Brahmastra etc. and proper application on the crops used while doing natural farming. During the programme, the experts of KVK went to the direct plots of more than 10 farmers of surrounding villages to understand the problems of pests and diseases in vegetables and pulse crops like Chilli, Okra, Cucumber, Gram etc. and gave appropriate advice.

Description : The year 2023 has been declared as the International Millets Year by the United Nations. In this year, targets such as the expansion of area under millets, increase in production and productivity as well as maximum inclusion of millets in the diet and emphasis on value added products will be achieved. Based on the same outline, the International Millets Year and Barvi Foods Nutritious Millets Processing Center inauguration ceremony was organized by Agriculture Department, Barvi Agro Farmers Producer Company and MAFSU, Nagpur afiliated Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon, Thane. The millets processing center was inaugurated by the auspicious hands of Hon'ble MLA, Mr. Kisan Kathore. Mr. Dashrath Gholap, Technical Officer, DSAO, Thane gave detailed information about PMFME Scheme, Chief Minister's Food Processing Scheme. Description : Considering the area under Dolichos Bean crop in Konkan region, Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli has developed a new variety of Dolichos Bean (DPLW-16). For rabi season 2022-23 adaptive trial of new variety in Thane district, Dr. BSKKV, Dapoli provided seeds to Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon. Therefore, for taking adaptive trial of newly developed Dolichos Bean variety (DPLW-16) and test variety (Konkan Wal-2) on farmers field, seeds were distributed to three farmers of Murbad taluka. Experts from KVK, Nagaon provided all necessary information for cultivation of these varieties.

Coconut Seedlings Distribution Programme

Description : To create awareness amongst farmers about Coconut production technology and to increase area under Coconut cultivation in Thane district, Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur affiliated KVK, Nagaon, Thane has organized district and taluka level awareness programme on “Coconut Production and Processing Technology” in collaboration with Coconut Development Board, State Centre-Thane under the guidance of Dr. Suresh D. Jagadale, Senior Scientist and Head on 28th April, 2022, At- Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon campus and on 12th October, 2022, At- Nandwal, Tq- Shahapur, respectively. As impact of these programmes, farmers were convinced about importance of Coconut cultivation. Farmers from Thane district noted their interest at KVK, Thane for purchase of Coconut seedlings. Total 23 farmers demanded 567 Coconut seedlings. As per the demand of farmers, KVK, Thane in collaboration with Coconut Development Board distributed seedlings with subsidy @ Rs. 120/seedling.

Description : Lumpy Skin Disease, which was detected in various states of the country a few days ago, has now entered some talukas of Thane district. Despite the completion of vaccination in the district level in various places, there is an atmosphere of fear in the minds of some farmers, they are facing huge expenses to save the animals. Various doubts has been arisen in their minds due to this viral disease which is trying to raise its head. To clear all those doubts and make the farmers aware about this disease, awareness programme on LSD was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon for farmers. The symptoms of lumpy disease, the remedies to be taken and all the doubts were cleared through the experts of KVK. Vaccination was adviced as a preventive measure to prevent the spread of this disease.

Anti Rabies Awareness and Vaccination Camp

Description : On the eve of World Rabies Day, Maharashtra Animal and Fishery Sciences University, Nagpur affiliated Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon organized ‘Anti Rabies Vaccination and Awareness Camp for Pet/Street Dogs and Cats. Education on dog behaviour, bite prevention and remedies to control rabies for both children and adults is an essential extension and can decrease both the incidence of human rabies. In India, below 15 years age group of children are more vulnerable to rabies. Dr. Suresh D. Jagadale, Senior Scientist and Head, KVK, Nagaon educated 129 students of below 15 years age group of Zilha Parishad School, Malipada on how to prevent dog bites, and immediate care measures after a bite in simple, easy and understandable language. He further advised students and villagers to vaccinate dogs and cats as it is the most cost-effective strategy for preventing rabies in people. Dr. Jagadale and team actively participated in the camp with great enthusiasm and vaccinated total 34 dogs and cats.

Expert suggested him to implement the disease management by roguing symptomatic plants and plant parts and drenching and spraying of biocontrol agent Trichoderma aspergillum (viride).

Description : Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Nagaon, Tal- Murbad, Dist- Thane participated in district level workshop on “Finger Millet Production and Processing Technology” organized by District Superintendent Agriculture Office, Thane. The workshop was inaugurated by Mr. D. S. Gholap, Technical Officer, DSAO, Thane. Mr. Kalpesh Dudhale, DRP, PMFME, Thane and Mr. Amol Agwan, Taluka Agriculture Officer, Shahapur were present for the said programme. Ms. Pranali N. Thakare, SMS (Agril. Extension) guided farmers on Finger Millet Production Technology and Ms. Asmita R. Mhatre, SMS (Home Science) guided and demonstrated various types of value added products made from Finger Millet by making Finger Millet Laddu, Chakli, Biscuit and Cake. Description : The experts of KVK, Nagaon, Thane visited to the Chilli cultivated plot of farmer Mr. Ramesh Mharse at Dahiwali village. The farmer is cultivating Chilli as a summer crop. Mr. Ramesh Mharse selected “Konkan kirti” improved variety for cultivation of Chilli vegetable crop. It was transplanted on 25 January 2022 by using ridges and furrows method of plantation. The total Chilli cultivated area is 10 R. During visit the experts inspected the Chili field and suggested treatment as per recommendation of Agricultural Universities. Observation recorded: Infection of wilt (Fusarium oxysporium) disease. Remedies suggested: 1. Destroy most infected plant mechanically. 2. Drenching of Carbendazim 50% WP @ 0.5%.

Description : The experts of KVK, Nagaon, Thane visited to the Cabbage cultivated plot of farmer Mr. Mangal Mharse at Dahiwali village. The farmer is cultivating cabbage as a summer crop. Mr. Mharse selected “Golden Acre” improved variety for cultivation of Cabbage vegetable crop. It was transplanted on 10 January, 2022 with by using ridges and furrows method. This cabbage crop is planted at a spacing of 60 cm between two rows and 10 cm between two seedlings. During visit the experts inspected the Cabbage field and suggested treatment as per recommendation of Agricultural Universities. Observation recorded: Attack of Diamond back moth caterpillar. Remedies suggested: 1. Destroy affected pupates and caterpillar mechanically. 2. Install Pheromone traps @ 2 Nos. 3. To Spray Malathion 2.5 ml/ Liter of water. Observation recorded: Water stress on crop. Remedies suggested: Water management should be done in the morning or evening at one day intervals.

Mr. Vishal Yadav, Scientist (Horticulture) guided on Management of mango blossom in-adverse weather conditions”, Dr. Mayur Navale, Scientist (Plant Protection) on “Identification of pest and diseases of mango crop and its management” and Mr. Rishabh Patil, Field Manager, on Control management of Loranthus on mango orchards. A large number of mango growers were present for the event. After the program, scientists from Krishi Vigyan Kendra visited mango farms in various villages at the request of farmers.

Observation recorded: Infestation of fruit and shoot borer in brinjal field. Remedies suggested: 1. Destroy most infested plant by mechanically. 2. Install Pheromone trap @ 6/Acre. Observation recorded: thrips attack on tender leaves. 1.Spraying of Imidachlopride 17.8 EC @ 1ml/ 1 lit of water.

Mr. Hiramand Shinde selected “Nadia” improved variety for cultivation of Okra vegetable crop. It was sowing on 27 November, 2021 by using dibbling method of plantation. The total Okra cultivated area is 1 acre. This Okra crop is planted at a spacing of 45 X 15 cm. During visit the experts inspected the Okra field and suggested treatment as per recommendation of Agricultural Universities. Observation recorded: Slightly infestation of Thrips. Remedies suggested: 1. Spraying of Lambda-cyhalothrin 5 % @0.6 ml/1 lit of water. 2. Yellow sticky traps used in field 6 box. Observation recorded: Infection of powdery mildew disease. Remedies suggested: Spraying of Hexaconazole 5% EC @ 0.5 ml /1 lit of water.

Dr. Lakhan Singh (Hon’ble Director, ATARI, Zone-VIII, Pune), Dr. Anil Bhikane (Hon’ble DEE, MAFSU, Nagpur), Dr. Ajit Ranade (Associate Dean, MVC, Parel), Mr. Sandeep Awari (Tehsildar and Executive Magistrate, Murbad), Mr. Deepak Pawar (Panchayat Samiti Chairman), Mr. Gurav (Deputy Engineer MVC, Parel), Mr. Chandrakant Harad (Sarpanch, Nagaon) were present for the programme. Dr. Suresh Jagadale, Senior Scientist and Head explained the background behind establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendra. He was said that the establishment of Krishi Vigyan Kendra, which has been going on since 2015, has finally taken a positive shape today. With a total of 731 KVKs in the country, KVK, Nagaon has the honour of building the 50th KVK in Maharashtra. On the occasion of this meet, vegetable seeds were distributed amongst farmers.
