Description : As part of Jal Shakti Abhiyan, ICAR-Krishi Vigyan Kendra Ukhrul organized a one day training programme on Water Conservation under the theme "Catch the Rain" at Winotang, Ukhrul on 11th May 2022. The programme was attended by the District Agriculture Officer-Ukhrul, Shri Varechon Raingam as the Chief Guest. Speaking on the occassion, the DAO stressed on the need to conserve water to resolve issue of water scarcity in the district. "Even with high percentage of rainfall during the monsoon season in Ukhrul,the people faced the issue of water shortage in the winter season", he added. He urged the public to take part in the movement to conserve and use water judiciously. Dr Solei Luiram, Head of KVK Ukhrul elaborated on the scientific and technical methods of water conservation. He mentioned that rain water can be conserved/stored for domestic usage as well as for agricultural purpose during lean season to enable farming throughj out the year and generate sustainable income for te farmers.

In the keynote address, Dr. Solei Luiram, Head i/c KVK Ukhrul spoke about the combination of management techniques to maintain soil quality and fertility while controlling weeds, pests and diseases for organic production of horticultural crops. The DAO Ukhrul emphasized on the importance of organic production of horticultural crops with the economic advantage in marketing. A total of 60 farmers attended the said programme.

Description : 600 chicks of Vanaraja,Giriraja were distributed to 30 farmers of Lungshang village on 25.07.2017 mainly to farm women followed by a training session focussing on housing,feeding,hygienic watering,disease control etc. The programme has been conducted with an objective of increasing the farmers income through backyard poultry rearing. Once egg production starts,the eggs will be on naturally hatching with local bird sitters and the chicks after growing stage will be distributed to other remaining farmers who were not included in the beginning stage. Like this way it will carry onwards till all the farm families got 20 no. of birds and maintained. They will be monitored on regular basis if any deficiency or ill health with the chicks and timely correction if required.

Venue : Hungpung which is a village under Ukhrul district located 80 km from Imphal having an altitude of around 1750 m.
Description : A total of 100 chicks after nurturing 25 days in normal brooding practice with starter feed having 20% C.P. were introduced in five different villages under Ukhrul district. The birds are again kept under good housing and feeding system till the period of 90 days during which they were provided 50% concentrated feed along with local feeds like crushed maize,brocken rice,rice bran,left over kitchen waste,local herbs and shrubs etc. ad.lib. After this period they are left free for scavenging in and around household area with morning and evening grain feeding.Their mortality was minimal and growth performance much better. They are like local birds in scaveging nature due to their long leggs. They have laid 180-190 eggs per annum having brown colour weighing around 53-55 gm. and yolk colour is yellow. Seeing the good performance now it has been replicated to 25 farmers with 20 birds each of Ukhrul district. All the farmers are satisfied with this backyard syatem of rearing.

Description : One day field Day on Paddy cum fish culture at Hunphun Village was organised by KVK-Ukhrul. Senior Scientist and Head Dr. Y. Ramakrishna Graced the programme. Mr. N. Sureshchandra Singh (SMS, Fisheries) delivered a lecture on the importants of paddy cum fish culture in context of Ukhrul District. Mr. N. Ajitkumar Singh Explained regarding the insect and pest control on paddy cum fish culture. Dr. L. Loken Singh and other SMS of this KVK attended the field day and participated in the group discussion as a part of the field day. about thirty farmers from the two villages were present in that programme.
