Onion: Boron deficiency was frequently observed in onion crops, along with the occurrence of purple blotch disease, both of which adversely affect growth and marketable quality Mustard: In mustard fields, the mustard sawfly was identified as a major pest, particularly in the Haryakuri village, leading to considerable crop damage. Cruciferous Vegetables: Farmers cultivating cruciferous vegetables face marketing challenges, with underpricing being a primary concern. This issue significantly impacts their profitability and livelihood. Brinjal: Brinjal mosaic virus was found to be a widespread problem, observed across almost all the villages surveyed during diagnostic visits. At the outset, the team met the Market Committee. Subsequently, Md. Panna Mia, Member of the Market Committee briefed the experts about the present scenario of the Market.Both crossbred and desi goats (BBG) were brought for sale sourcing from different parts of Malda and some from nearby states like Bihar. Around 150-200 goats have been brought on to the market. Out of which, only 50-60 % goats are sell out. There is no history of vaccination and deworming of the goats.Later, the experts also interacted with the sellers and buyers at the market.

Description : The diagnostic survey was conducted at a chili field at Habibur block of Joidanga village of Malda district. During the survey, the prevalence of chili leaf curl virus, Ralstonia wilt, Fusarium wilt, and fruit rot were high. In response, Dr. Dushyant Kumar Raghav, Senior Scientist and Head at ICAR-CISH-KVK, Malda, along with Dr. Anbazhagan P, SMS (Plant Pathology), recommended integrated disease management practices to control the outbreak in the area. To reduce the whitefly population, the application of systemic insecticides such as Dimethoate (2ml) or Acephate (1g per liter), along with the installation of yellow sticky traps, was suggested to limit the severity of chili leaf curl virus. For managing wilt diseases and fruit rot, drenching with 1% Bordeaux mixture, Blue copper, or Fytolan (0.25%) was advised. Additionally, 2kg of T. viride formulation mixed with 50kg of FYM, sprinkled with water, and covered with a thin polythene sheet, was recommended.

During the event, a live speech stream of Hon'ble Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister was telecasted. During the programme emphasis was laid down on role of vegetables and fruits for healthy eating among SC and tribal women by Dr. Antara Das from ICAR-CISH, RRS, Malda. Dr. Shailesh Kumar from ICAR-CISH KVK, Malda discussed about role of animal products including fishes in human nutrition. He highlighted that a common Indian diet supplemented with milk, curd, meat/fish/egg further enrich and balance our nutrition. A total of 48 women of tribal and scheduled cast communities were participated in the programme. Later various farming issues of participants were discussed during the programme.

For awareness of water conservation a flag march programme was organised in collaboration with Jagariti and Agrani SHGs at the different villages of Habibpur Block. Smt. Minati Mandal Hazra, Field Staff (Jagarti SHG) emphasized the importance of water in our live. She also described how we can store rain water for drinking of human, livestock and agriculture cultivation. Smt, Sumitra Murmu, Field Staff(Agrani SHG) discussed about various water resources and encouraged participants to use water conservation technology for store rainfall water. At the end of programme a quiz competition and prize distribution programme were organised. More than 85 participants were benefitted in the programme.

Ongoing trial on performance of the strawberry fruits on different type of mulching materials was also observed by them. Dr. Shakyawar was very happy to see the performance of strawberry trial and he told that we may jointly develop many improved technologies for the benefit of farming community. The dignitaries also visited other parts of experimental farm at ICAR-CISH-RRS and KVK, Malda and expressed happiness. After the farm visit, we have discussion on future collaborative activities to be undertaken for research, development and extension activities. Dr. Dipak Nayak also highlighted the possible use of Geo-textile on the embankment of different ponds at the station..
